Please read all FIBROBLAST contraindications and risks, and ask your technician if you have any concerns about conditions not listed.
Fibroblast Skin Tightening is generally suitable for most people, as it is particularly effective at treating notoriously difficult-to-treat areas, namely around the eyes (periorbital) and around the mouth (perioral).
It is also suitable for most skin types and textures, although there are some contraindications, which are listed below:
WHEN WE DO NOT PERFORM TREATMENT!
• If client has darker skin (Fitzpatrick scale skin type 6).
• If client skin is prone to scarring/keloid scarring (usually darker skin).
• If client is pregnant or breast-feeding.
• If client has a pace-maker (due to frequency of pace-maker).
• If client skin has:
• severe acne,
• moles and birthmarks,
• dermatitis or eczema,
• severe skin conditions,
• open wounds, lupus or psoriasis
• vitiligo,
• any visible skin irritation.
• Also if the client is taking medications:
• If client has severe Diabetes.
• If client has allergies or sensitivities to any of the products used during the treatment.

• If client has been taking Acne medications (Roaccutane) in the last year.
• If client is a CANCER patient (chemotherapy or irradiation).
• If client have any immune-deficient or have any other auto-immune disorder.
• ALOPECIA: This is an autoimmune disease resulting in hair loss. Sufferers may be more sensitive to treatment but there should be no problems treating alopecia sufferers with Plasma Pen.
• ANEMIA: Anemia is a condition characterized by a deficiency of the hemoglobin content of red corpuscles. These clients will bleed more profusely and will take longer to heal
• ANESTHETICS: Usually a reaction would be due to the base or preparation that the anesthetic is found in, such as the cream or the gel. Your Celebrity Skin technician would patch test different types of anesthetic would determine whether this is the case. If you are allergic to the ‘caine’ used in anesthetics, then the treatment can still proceed without an anesthetic if you elect. A cold compress or a freezing or cooling unit, such as the ‘cool spot’, could be used instead
• ASTHMA: Asthma is characterized by inflammation of the air passages resulting in the temporary narrowing of the airways and making it difficult to breathe. Asthma often requires the use of an inhaler to ease breathing. Regular use of an inhaler will cause thinning of the skin and increased vascularity. If you have asthma, you may bleed more easily and sometimes bruise. Your skin may be more sensitive and take longer to heal
• BIRTH MARKS AND PORT STAINS:These cannot and must not ever be treated with Plasma Pen
• BLEPHAROPLASTY: Excess fat and skin are surgically removed from the upper and lower eyelid. If a patient has had blepharoplasty (and our technique is often referred to as non-surgical blepharoplasty), you must wait for 3 months post-blepharoplasty (or longer if there is still pronounced redness in the area) before a Plasma Pen treatment
• BOTOX: It is recommended to wait at least 21 days after BOTOX injections. It is preferable to have your Plasma Pen treatment performed prior to BOTOX being administered or when the BOTOX is just about due for a top up
• BREASTFEEDING: The Plasma Pen treatment cannot be performed on breastfeeding mothers
• BROW, FOREHEAD OR FACELIFT: Please allow three (3) months after your brow, forehead, or facelift to determine your suitability for Plasma Pen treatment
• BRUISING OR BLEEDING EASILY: Bruising or bleeding easily may indicate an underlying health problem, and if you are prone to bruise or bleed easily, you may take longer to heal from your Plasma Pen treatment
• CANCER: If you are undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy then we must allow leave 5 weeks either side of treatment to be treated with Plasma Pen. If you are undergoing cancer treatment, you should check with your oncologist to find out when your blood count is most suitable to receive treatment. If the cancer is terminal, we may proceed with a doctor’s written consent
• CATARACTS: Fibroblast technicians may perform the Plasma Pen treatment with a doctor’s written consent (if treating the eye area)
• CONTACT LENSES
• Contact lenses must be removed before any treatment close to the eye, and must not be used for up to 72 hours post-procedure. We cannot begin to stress the importance of ensuring contact lenses are removed pre-treatment
• DIABETES: Diabetics have a tendency to both bleed and bruise easily, so you may find it more uncomfortable and the healing process may be lengthier. Some clients may need to wait longer between treatments
• DRY EYE: During a treatment, we may use more eye lubricant and saline solution throughout the treatment to keep you comfortable.
• EPILEPSY: If it has been two years since your last seizure, we may proceed with the Fibroblast Skin Tightening treatment. Plasma Pen treatment may trigger an epileptic event, and ByStefany.com, LLC will request that you complete a consent form as well as have someone bring with you at your appointment
• EYE LASER SURGERY (LASIK): If you have recently undergone any laser surgery for the eye, such as LASIK, it is recommended to wait 8-12 weeks post surgery
• HAY FEVER? ALLERGIES: If your eyes are red, watering, puffy or the skin is inflamed and red, your Celebrity Skin technician will recommend delaying the Plasma Pen procedure until symptoms have passed
• HEMOPHILIA: Hemophilia is contraindicated for Plasma Pen treatment, and not safe for hemophiliac patients
• HERPES: Herpes Simplex is a viral infection commonly referred to as a cold sore or fever blister – usually around the mouth. If you have ever had a cold sore, you are more likely to have an outbreak after Plasma Pen treatment in that area. Celebrity Skin suggests that you ask your physician for an antiviral treatment, such as acyclovir at least 5 days before treatment and 5 days after treatment
• HIV/ AIDS/ HEPATITIS:Plasma Pen is not safe for individuals with HIV / AIDS / Hepatitis or other immune disorders
• HYPER-PIGMENTATION: This is an over-production of melanin which has permanently damaged the surface of the skin. It is more commonly seen in Afro-Caribbean, Mediterranean, Asian and Latin skin types. It presents as darker patches of skin. Unfortunately, Plasma Pen is not appropriate for anyone with hyper pigmentation or having skin types 4-5-6 on the Fitzpatrick scale.
• INJECTIONS/ FILLERS: It is recommended to wait at least 21 days after the filler has been administered before doing a Plasma Pen treatment. It is also common for lips with large amounts of filler or fat in them to have slower or compromised healing. In some cases, the lips can become infected more easily during the healing process after working close to the lip.
• KIDNEY OR LIVER DISEASE: We request written consent from a doctor if you have kidney or liver disease.
• LUPUS: Due to the inflammation and swelling associated with lupus, the Plasma Pen treatment cannot be safely performed.
• MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE: If a you require antibiotics when you visit your dentist, then you will need to do the same prior to any Plasma Pen treatment.
• PREGNANCY: Like any cosmetic procedure, the Plasma Pen treatment comes with the risk of complications, including infection. These infections can cause risk to fetal health and even cause the loss of the baby. For these reasons, BYSTEFANY.COM technician will not perform Plasma Pen treatments on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• RETINAL DETACHMENT: Retinal Detachment is where the retina peels away from its underlying layer of support tissue. Initial detachment may be localized but without rapid surgical treatment the entire retina may detach, leading to vision loss and blindness. We ask that if you have experienced retinal conditions, that you obtain a written consent form from your ophthalmic surgeon prior to commencing Plasma Pen treatment in the eye area.
• SKIN DISORDERS (E.G. PSORIASIS, ECZEMA, DERMATITIS) All skin disorders can make the skin exceedingly dry and treatment more uncomfortable because the skin is usually thinner and more sensitive. It is not recommended to treat any areas with Plasma Pen that are affected by any of these skin disorders.
• SCARS ( HYPERTROPHIC, KELOID) This type of scar is raised instead of being flat and does not grow, and remain within the perimeter of the original wound and flatten over time. When new, they are often purple/pink becoming more pink/white as they mature. Unfortunately, Plasma Pen is not an appropriate treatment for hypertrophic scars.
• SHINGLES: Please wait 6 months after a shingles outbreak before undergoing a Plasma Pen procedure.
• STIES OR CONJUNCTIVITIS: If you suffer from sties or conjunctivitis, please wait at least 6 weeks following treatment prior to undergoing your Plasma Pen procedure. It is possible that the Plasma Pen treatment may cause the condition to recur if having the eye area treated. In some cases we may request written consent from your physician prior to commencing Plasma Pen treatment.
• THYROID: If you suffer from underactive thyroid, you may find that your healing time is slightly longer than typical.
• TRICHOTILLOMANIA: If you are prone to picking, the Plasma Pen treatment may not be appropriate due to the increased risk of infection and hyperpigmentation associated with additional trauma to the skin caused by trichotillomania.
• VITILIGO: Unfortunately, clients with vitiligo are not good candidates for Plasma Pen due to the risk associated with outbreaks in other areas of the body or face.
Day of Treatment:
On the treatment day, it is recommended that no make-up is worn on the treatment area.
A numbing agent is applied and left to take effect for up to 30 minutes. When the treatment area is sufficiently numb, the session begins with multiple connections of the fibroblast tip, spaced closely together. You may feel some heat in the treatment area, which may be uncomfortable and slightly irritating. Treatment time is usually between 20-40 minutes, depending on the size of the area.
Immediately after treatment the area may be red and mildly swollen with small carbon crusts (spots). You may experience a sensation similar to a sun burn which will likely last a few hours. Swelling may intensify over the following few hours and more so when eyes are treated and may last 2-3 days. The carbon crusts will lift within 5 -12 days depending on the individual and area treated. Results gradually improve over the course of the following 8 weeks.
Following the treatment, you will be given thorough aftercare instructions to ensure that you see the best results. In the week following the treatment (or until the treatment area has fully healed) an exfoliating wash or cleanser should not be used.
Pre-Treatment:
1. Avoid any kind of tanning (Spray tanning, tanning injections, sun tanning and tanning beds) for 4 weeks before your treatment. Ideally, you should try to use SPF5O to prep your skin for 2 to 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you are naturally darker skinned. You may even wish to consider using a natural Tyrosinase Inhibitor to helps ensure there is no overproduction of pigment in the skin aka hyperpigmentation.
2. Avoid any other type of procedures on the same area which you intend to have treated with Plasma Pen, such as laser therapy, chemical peels, Botox, fillers, as this may prevent your treatment being performed by your technician at the time you want it.
• No facial acids (Retin A, salicylic, glycolic) 14 days before or 21 days after Plasma Pen.
• No Botox or fillers 21 days before or after Plasma Pen.
• No Micro needling/PRP 21 days before or after Plasma Pen.
• No laser or peels (depending on intensity of peel) for 90 days before or after Plasma Pen.
• Surgical procedures like face lifts you must wait at least 9 months postop/before Plasma Pen.
• Skincare products with ingredients such as retinols, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), tretinoin or any type of Vitamin A derivatives should be avoided (30 days prior).
• Refrain from consuming coffee and energy drink the day of your appointment.
• Clients who have experienced a cold sore in or around the mouth MUST take Valtrex at least 3 days prior and 3 days after receiving this treatment. Failure to follow these instructions can risk an outbreak that can affect the healing process.
• Most people will experience a mild burning sensation immediately following any Plasma-Fibroblast procedure. This is similar to a sunburn which should resolve within a few hours. However, this depends upon your sensitivity tolerance and this discomfort may last longer. If you feel particularly uncomfortable, anti-inflammatories such as Advil or anti-histamines such as Benadryl is suggested. It is up to the individual to decide on self-medication.
• Keep scabs/crusts moist by applying provided aftercare three times a day –but only in small amounts, do not soak the area.
• It is highly unlikely you will ever get an infection from a Plasma Pen treatment, as the wound we cause is not open. However, the first 12 hours post-treatment is vital in protecting you from any potential infection, so please avoid any activities where you could expose yourself to contaminants. Keeping hands off of anything that comes in contact with the treatment area.
• You may return to work the following day. However, you will not look your absolute best during the initial healing process (approximately 7 days).
• If you are receiving a Plasma Pen treatment anywhere on your face or neck, we recommend you sleep on your back with your head elevated to reduce swelling.
• Do NOT stand with your face under a hot shower for the first 3-4 days. This could increase swelling. Try to avoid shower gels or hair products running on to your face as this could cause irritation and inflammation. Rinse thoroughly with tepid water if products do come into contact with the area(s) treated and gently pat dry.
• As a natural healing response, it is usual for the treated area to become swollen, especially around the more delicate area such as the eyes. Recovery can vary depending on your natural rate of recovery. Most people find it only lasts a few days.
• Initially after treatment and up to 3 days later, there may be occasional weeping. This is the natural healing response to the Plasma-Fibroblast procedure.
• As the treated area begins to heal, you will notice the drying out process whereby a brown/black crust develops on the surface of the skin. This will flake off after a few days but in some cases can take up to 10 days.
• DO NOT PICKthe crusting as it can lead to infection or scarring. It is important to keep this area clean.
• It is strongly advised that you use an SPF 50 sunscreen (throughout the year including the colder months) to avoid sunburn as the area’s sensitivity to sunlight will be heightened for up to 3-4 months post Plasma-Fibroblast Treatment.
• The area(s) treated may be cleansed daily with room temperature water and your fingers. Avoid using washcloths or any other washing devices. You are only removing excess oil and do not need to thoroughly cleanse the treated skin. Do NOT be tempted to rub, brush or exfoliate the area in any way to aid in the removal of the crusts. Pat dry with a clean tissue. (Colloidal Silver water is a great option.)
• DO NOT use alcohol-based cleansers as this will slow down the healing process.
• If at any time the treated area(s) become too hot, red or shows sign of pus, please contact your doctor for advice as you may be developing an infection.
• For optimum results, more than one Plasma-Fibroblast treatment is usually needed and can be performed typically 8-12 weeks onwards after the initial procedure.
• It is important that these crusts are NOT removed (never scratch, otherwise a scar will remain).
• After the independent peeling of the scab crusts (typically the 5t-8days), pink/red skin forms.
• Swimming and sauna activities are only permitted 2 weeks post treatment and once all the crusts have fallen off the skin surface and the wound is completely healed and closed.
• Smokers may experience a significant worsening of the blood flow, which increases the risk of wound healing and/or slowed healing.
• Note that after the crusts are lost, a slight redness may remain in the following weeks to months. It usually takes 4-6 weeks (sometimes longer) until the skin has reached its normal color again.
• Follow up treatment will not be before 8 weeks from the first treatment date.
• Do not cover with plasters or occlusive dressing.
• A vitamin C is the ideal way to boost or maintain the bodies levels after plasma treatment and should be a consideration as part of your aftercare advice. I will also recommend using a Vitamin C face cream.
• Men should avoid shaving the treated area until it is fully healed (around 7 days).
• If you have had treatment around your eyes, you should avoid wearing contact lenses for 72 hours after your treatment.
DO NOT SCRATCH or PICK!!!
Swelling is characteristic of this type of aesthetic procedure and it should be always expected after using voltaic plasma. This is because the area will be recovering from an intentional burn, therefore, the natural side effect is swelling. Swelling can be minimized using certain techniques but never completely avoided, because a deliberately controlled burn must be caused to the eyelids in order to induce the desired localized skin tightening.
Although swelling is to be expected there is no reason to try and cure it because in all circumstances it will subside on its own accord.
The few adverse effects have been caused using incorrect creams and products in order to minimize or "cure" the swelling. Please note that the swelling should not be cured because it is not a disease and it is a direct transient consequence of the controlled burn caused by the aesthetic treatment.
Healing Process for Eye treatment-Plasma Fibroblast
Day 1. The Swelling peaks the day following the treatment there is the peak of swelling. Some clients might find it harder to open their eyes as soon as they get up in the morning the first day following the treatment. Gradually, throughout the day the swelling will subside slightly. Discomfort, pain and slight discharge can occur, but this is normal.
Day 2. The swelling is the same or slightly less than the previous day (Day 1). The swelling peaks soon after waking up and subsides slightly throughout the day. Sometimes swelling also spreads to the eye-bags even if no plasma aesthetic treatment was carried out on the lower eyelids, this is normal because the upper eyelid communicates with the lower eyelid and some fluid inside the upper eyelid can spread to the eye bags. This is normal and this undesired swelling of the lower eyelid will subside over the following days.
Day 3. The swelling should start to subside noticeably and the spots where the electrical plasma was applied will start turning into scabs. The scabs must not me picked and should fall off on their own accord. The discomfort experienced during day1 and day 2 should have subsided dramatically. No further pain should be experienced on the third day following the treatment. For those people who experience eye-bag swelling, this should still be present during the third day.
Day 4. No discomfort or pain should be felt fourth following the treatment. Some residual minor swelling can still be on the upper eyelids. No more pain or discomfort should be felt.
Day 5. All swelling should have subsided, and some scabs may still be present. The minor swelling on the eye bags should have almost subsided.
Day 6. The scabs should have started to fall off. In most cases during Day 6 people will struggle to tell whether any aesthetic treatment has ever been performed.
Day 7. Almost all scabs should have fallen off. At this point, it is ok to start using total physical sunscreen and apply makeup as usual.
Week 2. The area although has healed it may feel more tender to the touch than usual and people may experience a stinging sensation while applying creams or washing normally. The area may look pinker than usual.
Week 3 and 4. They are maybe still slightly tender and pinker than the rest of the area.
Month 2. Tenderness should have subsided, and the area should have fully blended with the surrounding skin.
At Home Care:
The main principle to follow in the aftercare is just minimizing the likelihood of contracting any bacterial infection or scratching the area while the scabs have formed.
-Make sure all linen in your bed you are very clean to try and minimize contact with bacteria while sleeping.
-Avoid deliberate direct sun exposure for at lead 3 months after the last treatment. Early sun exposure, even while you are wearing sunscreen can increase the likelihood of hyper-pigmentation.
-The area will be slightly pink and sensitive. When applying creams, you can have a stinging sensation.
DON'TS:
-Do not use makeup of any type.
-Do not touch your eyelids (or the area treated in general) with your hands. In case of accidental rubbing using your hands wash the area immediately. As directed above.
-Do not use any creams of any types. The use of creams can lead to bacteria proliferation, delayed healing and some minor adverse effect. The use of inappropriate creams can lead to infections especially if used before the scabbing takes place.
